TCATA and Paratransit Service
The Twin Cities Area Transportation Authority (TCATA) is gearing up to implement Paratransit services which will be available to residents living within *3/4 of a mile (or a 2 minute walk) on either side of the current Blue and Red Fixed Route bus stops located throughout Benton Harbor and St. Joseph.
*This excludes the red route (commuter service) to Stevensville.
Paratransit Service Requirements
In order to meet the American Disability Act (ADA) requirements, the Paratransit service must operate the same hours of the Fixed Routes to ensure that individuals with disabilities have equitable access to transportation that those who currently have access to the Fixed Routes does.
Eligibility for Paratransit Services
Not all persons with disabilities will be eligible for the paratransit services. Only those who have a disability that prevents him/her from using the fixed routes will be eligible to apply. Only after TCATA approves the application, will one be eligible to receive the paratransit services. The regular dial-a-ride service will continue to be available for people not living within 3/4 (two minutes) of a mile from the fixed route bus system.
Public Input Period
TCATA wants to ensure that the application is suitable and meets the requirements of ADA . TCATA will accept comments and suggestion starting June 27, 2012 to July 20, 2012 at 5:00pm.
